Description

Image updated 5/28/19: color correction and resolution.

This is my very first biscornu! :D I think it came out really nice. Originally I did this for the stitchingpirates contest, which the rules are done up to mean that my entry is the prize for another entrant! I hope whoever wins it loves it lots!
Since there's another contest going on that seemed simple to incorporate into one piece, I'm also submitting it to this contest here forums.puzzlepirates.com/commu… for my long-term MMO Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates. The only requirement there was that it is an ornament... well... it was fun finding the perfect ribbon to do just that. :aww:

The left side, the brighter side, is done in red silk thread that I won from a stitchingpirates previous contest. I've never worked with silk threads before... definitely a learning experience. It's not so different from the cotton I'm used to but it was a lot easier for it to fray on the ends. Tucking it into the back to start a new thread became messy at times since the ends from the previous thread wanted to come up through the front of the fabric. It was really naturally shiny and soft to work with. This pattern is from aurelle.over-blog.com and I had to make some slight corrections.

The right side is done in red metallic thread. I'm used to working metallics so this wasn't nearly as odd, but for anyone who's used metallic threads you know how difficult and tight they can be to work with! Overall the effect is exactly what I wanted though. :D I'm not entirely sure where this pattern came from. It was somewhere online but for whatever reason I forgot to write it down. I added the final row around with the hearts myself.

The ribbon I picked is the same red shade as the silk but has the same sparkle as the metallic. I used two tiny buttons for the centers in different shades to match the thread. To sew the sides together I used red cotton since I know it'll hold together tightly where as I know metallic is prone to breaking and silk I'm just not that familiar with. I did a very thin layer of clear nail polish over the buttons to give them an extra shine and to seal the thread going between the two buttons. The whole thing is stuffed with some leftover batting from a quilt mom made.

Edit: Katjakay and myself ended up trading with each other. :aww:
