Paper Beads and Glitter Dress - Red

Description

I had a really stressful day of work. :c I got yelled at by a customer and I think I handled it okay, but it totally consumed the day and when I got home I just wanted to curl up and feel bad for myself. Sometimes I do give into that - I just lay around being upset. But most of the time I have to get myself busy - get my hands working - get my mind and energy focused on something productive so that I don't lurk in that pile of angst.

This is a Miyuki kit that I picked up a while back on some close out sale sort of thing, I really didn't know what they were beyond the keywords of "beads", "dress", and "kit". There's a warning on the back, "please prevent the inhalation of glitter," which speaks directly to my heart and, as a cloud of glitter myself, was very appreciated. So here's what I received: the bit of cardstock with the dress printed on it, the beads, the glue, the glitter, some thread stuff, and the instructions. The first bit was threading the beads together to create those main shapes, which at first I was like "why" but after I was gluing things down it was apparent enough that if you had to glue down each of those gold beads individually the project would be nonsense. After that was gluing down all the little individual beads, and last was the glitter.

I don't do a lot of projects with glue, honestly. There's a few spots where I use it, like connecting the Star Trek miniature badges to the bead dress, or on some of Brooke's Books perforated paper projects, or on the bead dress stands. Glue is obviously not a foreign concept for me  but I'm not super used to using it as a main project element.

This was extremely relaxing. I told myself when I started, just, don't even worry about it not being perfect. The belt is a bit skewed. The placement isn't exact to the kit's sample photo. I chose not to put glitter for sleeves, and also chose to leave off a row of beading between the glitter layers on the skirt. It didn't have to be perfect. And that's something I very rarely let myself do. It was super zen to put a little dot of glue, get my tweezers over to a single bead, rotate it around, and then stick it. Over and over: glue, tweezers, bead, place. That chill, imperfect me-time repetition is exactly what I needed after the hard day.
:iconpinksparklesplz: Please don't inhale me.
