:la: I finished project #2 for the 3D Brazilian Embroidery class I've been attending. This one wasn't done as a class, it was just me who was doing it, since all of us have picked up our own projects since the Monogram was finished. :D

All progress for this was posted via my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/MakeItPinkEts…

This design is called A Box of Chocolates and is from DK Designs. The chocolates were formed by cutting out pieces of foam (literally just called foamies, I got them from Michaels yearrrrs ago) and then stitching over them to form the shapes. The most difficult to cut were the ovals because even when properly oval shaped they were pretty fussy to get curving as intended. Most of the stitching is done in what's basically a satin stitch over the shapes, with different thread paths to get the desired effect. The leftmost rectangle uses a double cast on stitch which was quite the learning experience. The white ruffles are meant to be up-down cast ons but I just did them one way, and the 'paper' around each of the chocolates is done in up-down cast on properly. Iiiiiii don't remember what the red box border is in... I feel like it's a type of lazy daisy/bullion knot but I just can't remember and I'm far too busy to go dig the instructions back out.

So a couple changes from the main design: not all the colors came with the kit! Yep. A couple replacements were included, though, so that was nice, but I still had to hunt for some of the specialties. The rainbow sprinkles were apparently meant to be something else, but I was provided the alternate (which I used). I had to go out of my way to hunt down the Very Velvet threads for the topmost square and the background - that was a major pain. After a whole lot of hunting I did manage to find some Very Velvet on etsy [ www.etsy.com/shop/terrymillerd… ] and didn't mind footing the bill since I was going to need it for this project. The velvet was reallllll important to me. I also had to hunt down the replacement colors for the 'paper', I guess there were two options in the instructions for it but neither were provided? :stare: That skein I was also able to hunt down via Etsy [ www.etsy.com/shop/sweetgirlstu… ] but I was not so happy that I had to do that. The EdMar threads I guess are a real pain in the butt to get unless you have a physical supplier sooooo I mean I chucked out the money and it looks nice on my final product but come on.

A possibly-obvious change is the buttons themselves. Buttons didn't come with the kit, so I rummaged into my own button hoard to find some cuties. Stitching those flowers on top of the buttons was some different level witchcraft, lemme say. You have to do the entire thing "in the air" with just the button behaving as your "fabric" while you do cast on stitches and try not to pull everything through because you can't knot the thread because you have to be able to pull it INTO THE CHOCOLATE and thennnnnn you can knot it on the back of the fabric when everything is done...! Like, woah, there. I also changed the color of the green chocolate to mint because the original kit wanted it to be the same BRIGHT GREEN as the flower leafies and I was like, "nope". Last major change would be that middle-ish rectangle with the bugle beads - the original kit wanted me to smother it with french knots and weeee allllll knowwwww how I feel about french knots. Plus my satin stitching is super pristine on that chocolate and I wasn't about to smother it with disgusting knots, so there you go. They didn't photograph very well, but the bugle beads have a rainbow coating on them that makes them look like perfect sugar candies.

Overall I'm MASSIVELY PLEASED with how this turned out and it's sooooo delicious to just be around, you should all be part of this.
