Description

This lovely pattern came to me as part of the D.E.S.I.G.N. challenge that Fusainne ran and in which I participated through my now-defunct blog. In the spirit of continuation, here's the D.E.S.I.G.N. format revived.

What project are you working on this month?
Sylvia mailed me "Elizabeth: Baroque Beauties" from Glendon Place as a prize for participating in D.E.S.I.G.N.

Have you stitched a project by this designer before?
I haven't!

Would you buy/stitch a design by this designer again? Why/Why not?
If one caught my eye I would hop on it. The pattern itself was a delight to work with and the "solidness", I suppose, of the design was something I really appreciated. I'm a sucker for patterns smothered with backstitching and so to switch to a piece that only has a very small amount of it was refreshing. The quality is high and it's obvious a lot of love and care has gone into it.

What made you choose this particular design/designer?
It came to me in the mail about a year ago so it's not really something I volunteered to own. It was, admittedly, hardly even something that I wanted to do. I was just shuffling through the pile of kits in my closet and this one looked like the right project to carry out to my workstation and fill some time between larger pieces.

Did you notice anything that distinguished this designer from others?
That "solidness" I mentioned earlier distinguishes the design for me. A lot of solid designs fall between the HAED popcorn-massive style and motif small styles, at least how I see them. It's rare for me to see a design that keeps that solid look and still stands on its own without being "ridiculous tapestry" or "learning to stitch".

SERIOUSLY I loveeeeee how in lieu of backstitching the outlines of much of the piece is done in solid sparkly Kreinik! :squee: The instructions are like "recommended you don't use anything smaller than 14 count because of the bead clusters" but because I'm rebellious I used my favorite 18 count (the beads stack fine, as you can see). There was only one thing that I thought was a mistake and so I changed it, the leaf veins were marked as being the metallic gold/yellow but that really didn't make any sense to me so I swapped them to one of the other used shades of green. Maybe this is just a printing error or maybe that was what was intended, but I like the leaves green and the stem gold, not mixed.

 Fully enjoyed all my time with this glittering piece, might pick up the rest of the Baroque Beauty collection in the future.
