This is not my entry to the Trick or Treat Artisan Craft Contest, this is a stand-alone submission view of it! maytel.deviantart.com/journal/…
This is a 1:12 scale miniature witch hat that was made to match my Halloween Dress! The pattern is not entirely mine but I can honestly tell you it can't be found anywhere (online, in books, etc) but in my own notes. The cone pattern/instructions for the top of the hat were found for me by my friend Sharon and can be found here: inspirationalbeading.blogspot.… . The brim pattern is the same as used on my previous hats fav.me/d6680yc but, again, don't follow the pattern exactly but use a rough version of it. The bow is from the small dress I did this past September fav.me/d6ja51h and also uses an antique crystal from a chandelier I had the opportunity to take apart. The "ribbon" section that wraps around the hat has no formal pattern but instead uses a basic ladder technique found for most brick stitch starts.
The brim is open net weave because if I used a tight weave it would've done this instead fav.me/d668huu making it incredibly un-witchy and frilly. The open net allows for a much more malleable and poseable witch hat, as all witch hats should be!
Size 11 black and silver-lined orange, as well as size 15 silver-lined orange for the "ribbon" around the hatband. One antique chandelier crystal makes up the center of the bow. Threaded together with doubled-up (two layers) black Kevlar but for the love of all things good do not take a pair of scissors to it to test the Kevlar strength - you will only ruin the entire thing. Brick stitch for the cone and basic netting for the brim, RAW for the bow and laddering for the ribbon.
Colors: 2
Bead Sizes: 2
Bonus: Antique crystal!
Size: 1 3/4 inches diameter, 1 1/4 inches tall
Time: Untimed, Bow: 20 minutes
Since I was creating the pattern as I went I didn't time my work.
Part of the Halloween set.
